I've been in bed the past two days with a truly rotten headache. Spending lots of time resting with Westley, wearing my favorite pajama pants of all time (they used to be my dad's!) and catching up with silly tv shows. I need to rally and get out of bed though. Lots to be done! And hopefully I can shake my lazy blog updating ways soon too. I think it's time for a good adventure outside the city.... Lucky tomorrow is Friday!

Closet Changes.

IMG_5100

I just want to apologize ahead of time- this blog post is pretty pointless and it's probably going to work its way out to be me rambling on about clothes. But, clothes have been on the brain lately. I've been so crazy about wearing black, white, and pale pink. Throw in a dash of navy blue and you have basically what I've been wearing and all my recent purchases. I'm just getting more and more simple and boring I think... Which I'm okay with.

I also think my un-ending love for Lyell is also a big part of this. Since having a closet full of the real deal is impossible for my humble etsy shop earnings (and for other, obvious reasons as well... I'm still too heart broken to talk about it)
I just make sure to use an editing eye when finding new things for myself. Simple designs with really beautiful details. Nothing too flashy from far away - but, when you look closely, there's really nice things going on.

I used to stay far away from the color black. I thought it wasn't right for me... Now I can't get enough! And please, don't get me wrong - I still loooove patterned cotton dresses and I certainly won't stop finding/hoarding them.. But, for right now, while I'm in San Francisco, I'll just stash them away until I'm some place warmer.

I think my goal for today is to try and clean out my closet a bit. I know I'm always doing this - but I never really unpacked from when I was back in MA (which was over a month ago) Today, I'll put the more precious things safely folded in tissue and tuck them away from dust and hanger damage. I'm also considering selling off some of my stuffed animals ... maybe in a round of ebay auctions. Of course I'll keep some - but I really could use some extra space to put shoes and bags and other things that just end up on the floor.

ebay

It's been over a year since I've sold anything on ebay but I've been slowly accumulating a few things that just didn't seem etsy appropriate. I have 8 auctions up right now that end next Sunday, the 16th. It was nice being able to take as many detail photos as I wanted, so I think I might try and put more old bits and bobs onto ebay in the future. Maybe every month or so!

May Days

The sun has been extra good to me this week! No clouds so that means full days of picture opportunities! Here's a few glimpses as to how things have been looking around here lately...

Birthday Dress

Birthday Dress

My birthday dress I mentioned earlier! Someone grabbed it from right under me at the flea market - when she held it up to the vendor and asked for a price I almost died. I had just shuffled around some ratty blouses and she must have seen that peeking out just a second before I did. Luckily she wasn't happy with the $20 price tag - there were some stains... So she put it down and as soon as it hit the table I grabbed it. I almost had a heart attack in those moments between.. I'll pay $20 for a silk/lace 20s dress any day. After a gentle soak in oxy clean/palmolive all is well!

From that same vendor I bought this beautiful 30s pale pink lace body suit that turns into shorts. I almost didn't buy it. I was two rows over when I finally saw the light about how perfect it is to layer with skirts and blouses and cardigans. You can just about see it in this photo...

I received a really sweet package from from emily last week - these pretty drying flowers were tucked inside along with a realllllllly adorable stuffed bunny.

On the sweetsie animal note, I found this funny little ratty cat for the collection (also from Alameda).

And these lovely little cat figurines I picked up at Saipua a few weeks ago. Those orange ranunculus are now dead but I'm having a hard time throwing them out - ranunculus die in such a nice way!

And then of course there's Westley. Best little bud ever! I take approximately 25 photos of him a day - trying to be good and not upload everryy single onee.

I've been working on getting a big etsy update together. I think it'll be tomorrow. There's some really good stuff! I think this has been my favorite flea market haul and I hope you'll agree!! I'm also going to be putting a few things on ebay too. I'll be sure to post about it as soon as things fall into place. I'm still working on getting it all together!

This little satin floral embroidered clutch was going to be part of the ebay update, but I decided it's going to stay here instead!
I decided to sell it! The auction will be up Sunday evening! I'll update the blog w/ a link!

Lomo Adventures: Lafayette House

Today was a really good day. Really nice company at the flea market this morn and I found some really beautiful things that I'm excited to list onto etsy. Really excited actually! The weather was perfect, sunny and in the 70s. And I had dinner at La Boulange! The only thing that could make it better is if I was tucking myself into bed at the Lafayette House.

Some photos from my last trip to New York that have been sitting around on my flickr account for too long...

Cool Lyfe

Ooh, I think I found my birthday dress for this year! Its not until July but I think I'll set it aside until then! Its 20s, blush pink silk and there's lace. Enough said. Now I just need to figure out how to re-create this and try and channel this!

Places to Visit: Los Angeles - Flounce Vintage

I'd like to introduce you to my favorite vintage store on the West Coast - Flounce Vintage - and it happens to be nestled in Los Angeles's Echo Park (right next to a cafe that has really tasty mint lemonade!)

flounce VINTAGE

I first visited Flounce two summer's ago when I was in LA for Quicksilver's Traveling Shirt party and Jennifer was sweet enough to send a nice list of places to visit. Flounce was on the list and I fell in love the moment I walked in!

IMG_1878

I always have an idolized idea of how places should be when usually they're nothing like what's floating around my brain. My skewed perception of Hollywood is one of these things. I always think back to old Hollywood - where the gals are sweet and wholesome (having just moved to California from a small hometown) .. Just trying to earn a buck and make it big in the pictures. They wear pretty dresses and have perfectly imperfect finger-wave bobs. They live in the chaotic apartment buildings with only one telephone belonging to a lady who's always in her bath robe and curlers... All the furniture is perfectly Art Deco and there's no shortage of pretty floral fabrics and nice sunlight coming through those lacey curtains.

IMG_1879

IMG_1870

The point to all of that rambling is.. Flounce is exactly what I think of when I think of Hollywood... Gorgeous flapper era frocks, pretty day dresses in pale colors and soft fabrics. Stunning evening wear. Floral needlepoint, and the best little ceramic animal knick-knack paddywacks to fill that 5th floor studio home away from home apartment.

Luckily they have an etsy shop - so those of us not living in the land of movie reels and super stars can grab a little piece of old Hollywood for ourselves!
