It's that time of the year.... Strawberry season: the good days. When the summer's just starting and it's totally acceptable to spend a lazy weekend with red fingertips and little stains on the front of your dress/shorts/bathing suit. Maybe even preferred? As long as I can remember the first weekend in June is always a scorcher on the East Coast. The weather is a bit different in San Francisco, but the forecast is predicting 70s and I'm totally okay with that.
And I'm totally okay with the fact that these strawberries I picked up this morning will probably be gone by tomorrow morning. I had somehow forgotten they were in season but was happily reminded when I saw all the little open green pints lined up at the market. 3 for $10 and I have to say, it was a pretty darn great investment.
Happy lazy strawberry stained summer weekend !

Adorable photos! I couldn't resist buying a box the other day even though I would be the only one eating them. Now, they are a little on the over ripe side. I might have to mush them up and make something.
It is SO hard for fruit to stay inside our house! The second it's inside the fridge, it's taken out and devoured :D Nothing beats the taste of fresh fruit!
I always mean to go berry picking around here, but haven't since I was little!
I usually grab piles of it at the farmer's market and eat it all before I get home. Oh dear!
aww i want it to be summer in my part of the world..
sweet photos.
love to dip them in sugar and then eat them ! ah, so cheap! here in norway, it can cost 6dollars or more !
Picking your own is my favourite. And strawberrys, I could eat them forever!
love the cute little napkin :)

Yay!
I have been buying strawberries every morning this week.
They're too good!
Great photos!! My husband and I made a trip to the farmers' market this morning and purchased a couple of baskets of strawberries and they did not make it home ... we ate them!!! xo
Nice photos! They made me want to go out and buy strawberries right now... Yummy!
I know what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow! :)
Those are expensive strawberries! But worth every penny I'm sure. I've been using all of our strawberries in icy cool breakfast smoothies.
Shelia day: The over-ripe thing happens to me too! It's like they're too precious to eat and then too much time passes and then they're not good anymore! What did you end up making with yours? I'd really like to start baking/caning with strawberries but I don't even know where to start!
Chaucee: Agreed! Although, I have to say - most fruit (besides berries) weirds me out a little... I don't know what it is! I guess we all have our bizarre food quirks!
kater: berry picking! I've never been strawberry picking but blueberries are a different story! Maybe if you get yourself to MA in July we should go! Although I think blueberry season is usually in August? I'll look into it!
Love Again: I feel the same way most days! The weather in San Francisco is usually stuck in the 60s - a few freak days where it'll get into the 70s for a few hours and then back down to the low 60s at night. I miss hot summer days/and warm nights!
Luu H - strawberries and sugar is the best! When they're not in season they're soo expensive - definitely around $6 for a small little box. it's so sad!
E is for Eleanor: Agreed!!!
Page: Thank you! Its actually a hankie, which I now have to clean because there's little red stains on it, but I don't mind!!
J.P. - you must live right near a really amazing market!
Caroline - That's the best way to do it! I bet they tasted especially amazing too if they were straight from the farm!
cellulite cream: I'm happy to hear that! That's what I was hoping for with this post - since I almost forgot they were in season, I didn't want anyone else to either!
Samantha: yay! yay! yay! so good with cereal or oatmeal or just by themselves!
Laura: gosh, I know. And that's the in season price ... when it's the middle of December and imported from far away places they're even more pricey.
aww I love strawberry season! Every Summer for abouth a month we have local strawberries that are these tiny little things barely bigger than blackberries, but they are so so sweet and from right here in Quebec!
They're wonderful!
