I bought this dress a few months ago at Café Society. I think it was luck that day because I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it hanging there! 1920’s butter yellow lace perfection = DREAM DRESS! And it did not wipe out my checking account either!
For the past few years I’ve made it a tradition to buy a special dress for my birthday. This one is definitely, definitely 2008’s dress!

And more bits and pieces of my room – it’s still a mess, I decided to get soul food last Friday instead of cleaning, but this weekend is the weekend! I’ll probably try and list some treasures from my room on etsy this weekend too. I’m trying so hard to cutback on clutter!

The silly bowling pin was my purchase from the Lamp Shop last weekend. (This is its temporary home though) And the bag I bought from Bobby’s a few weekends ago, I haven’t worn it yet, but I love looking at it!

The Lamp Shop

There are two stores in two adorable towns that have stolen my heart... This particular one is The Lamp Shop in Burlington, VT
I've been in love with this store for the past five years and finally mustered up the courage to ask one of the shop girls if I could take photographs!!

The Lamp Shop repairs and sells vintage lights. They also sell all sorts of flea market and estate sale finds you only wish you could have stumbled upon first! And it's on Pine Street, which is the best street in Burlington - so that's wonderful too!
(If you end up on Pine Street make sure to check out Recycle North, Great Harvest, and Battery Street Jeans !

thirteen eighty-five and etsy!

Finally, there are things in that shop!!!
Not everything is listed yet, I've been working on this all day (from 9:30-12:30 with only meal breaks, okay - and a bubble tea break too!!!)

I promised myself that this blog wouldn't turn into a place for me to post photos of stuff for sale, but I'm just really happy with the way these photos turned out - and it's my first shop update, so I hope you'll forgive me!

Okay, okay, I know I've been the worst blogger these past few weeks. But, I promise things will be lookin' up mighty soon!

Plans:
Friday: cleaning out my room (the constant clutter is too much!)
Saturday: going to Burlington, VT for a little shopping trip (oh, how I miss you Recycle North, Great Harvest, Battery Street Jeans, Sneakers, Boeve's, The Lamp Shop!!!)
Sunday: stopping by a flea market in NH on our way back to Boston
AND getting things in place for etsy!

Yes, uh-huh... that means the shop will actually have things in it! Sunday night!
Sally Jane sent the sweetest words of encouragement my way, and it was exactly the little kick I needed to get my act together - so, just a few more days, I promise.

I was trying to take some photos yesterday, and I decided I just don't have enough things to my liking, so that explains this crazy shopping extravaganza. I'm also itching for a new computer, and all etsy sales will be going directly to Apple so I can be a normal internet girl once again.

here's a little tiny preview of what's to come. (I ended up ditching the pink background for the real photo, but Lou was being such a funny thing, I had to post this one)

Happy Birthday Babie

Today is my grandmother's 95th birthday!!!
She's been a hairdresser for over 60 years, and this is a photograph of her beauty salon back in its hay-day. The salon still looks just like it did and she even does the occasional hair cut or perm! (the only thing that's changed is that those hair dryers now look like this.

The polish word for Grandmother is Babcia (pronounced: bab-cha) but my brother, sister, and I could never pronounce that when we were little, so we called her Babie (bab-E) and it stuck! She's such a spit fire and I really get a lot of my bad clutter/collecting habits from her (y2k never happened in her house - and things are piled high!) I don't know if she realizes how important she is and what a huge inspiration she's been. (her beautiful 1940's silk crepe dresses, those same stories she tells, and the never ending afternoons I've spent exploring her house)
I'm so happy she's still with us.

She's doing amazing for her age, but this week has been hard - she had a terrible fall over the weekend and broke two ribs... I think she'll be fine, but that means cake and ice cream at her hospital room tonight. I'm excited to have her back home though, and to spend more summer afternoons sitting on the back porch.

wake up!

Sorry for the sleepy blog lately - I blame it on technology. My powerbook that I've spent the last four years with has finally bite the dust.... It was a long time coming, so I'm not completely devastated - but, that means that I have to start working extra hard to get the etsy shop up and going. This weekend was really promising, we made some great purchases, really great ones! And my new digital camera came this weekend, so taking photos will be so much easier. I don't have a tripod, so it's just finding the time with friends to take photos... The computer thing is a really great motivation though!

Thirteen Eighty-Five

(everything you see here will be on etsy in the upcoming days!)

. . . . . . . . . . .

It's much too late for me right now - but I want to share some photos from our flea market adventure this weekend...

This is the little AM radio of my dreams. It's a vintage tube amp and it takes a minute or so to warm up before it starts playing. Boston has an amazing station that plays really charming old songs, 740 - The Memory Station, and I'm currently listening to one of my favorite polka tune. I'm so happy we found this today because it's been in my daydreams for far too long! I don't want to leave this room....

I found this elephant alongside a sad panda bear - the elephant I gave to Alice because she loves them and once a psychic told her she had a past life experience with them! As for the panda, I'm practicing some control and I'll eventually put him up for sale.

spring time presents

I have been wanting something from Built By Wendy ever since my high school days... Every collection I find myself himmin' and hawin' over each piece, but I never end up buying anything. Yesterday I saw my boyfriend after he'd been in New York for a few days and when I saw a Built By Wendy bag in his hand it took all I had in me to stay cool and not start jumping around!

lou

I love the peter pan collar and the little string bow at the neck. The color is perfect too! I'm sure it'll be making an appearance in Wardrobe Remix at some point, but for now I need to find just the right skirt to wear with it!
(I am completely tempted to buy the skirt they show it with, but I'm sure I can come up with something equally lovely on my own.... gingham though, it always steals my heart!)

. . .

He also visited Lyell this weekend and with the help of those adorable girls picked out this skirt for me

Unfortunately it wasn't the right size...BUT - there are plans in the works to visit the city this weekend, so hopefully I can exchange it for the right size .... or maybe for this..

or these shorts..

AHH! Lyell, how I love you.

mother's day weekend

I'm at my parents visiting for the weekend... my parents house is on a pond and yesterday we seemed to have ourselves a little visitor..

The yard is littered with chewed up sticks from our two pups. Those two trees used to be my favorite place to play in the summer time. When the water is lower there are all of these little rocks you can hop across that lead towards a little marshy swamp area. One time after a thunderstorm my mother told me there was a pot of gold outside - I searched for hours and I was convinced that this was the spot I'd find it.

. . . . . . . . . . .

Today my parents went golfing for the afternoon and so I decided to drive to Putnam, Connecticut to wander around for the afternoon. Putnam is a little town in Northern CT ... slightly run-down, and filled with antique stores...... Trouble.

My finds:

I bought this hair clip in a dark dusty shoppe. I felt like it was just a front for weird old magical objects. The floor boards creaked under my feet and there was the strangest light coming from the windows. The owner had a long grey ponytail and the gnarliest finger nails. Long and jagged. He said this was from the 20's or 30's...
I was reading a post from The Vintage Society about trademarks... I don't think I have a trademark, but I think I'd like this little airplane to be it!

I have a slight obsession with strange cat things. Statues, clothing, pillows.. you name it. I hope this isn't a peek into my future.. (crazy cat lady, eek!) but, I do love this little thing - and I'd like to do some re-pro's to maybe sell online at some point. The trick is finding the right fabric...

I also found this lovely little bag that used to be for sewing notions. I like it better as tote bag, the shoelace drawstrings are my favorite part. That little triangle flap goes around the whole bag, and it's made of the softest cotton!

And well, because- I need another vintage umbrella, really. (sarcasm)

I also bought an early 1960's Ouija board for Alice... she's been looking for one for a while now, but - it turns out she bought one... TODAY! what luck!

weekend purchases

I've been meaning to buy this umbrella for the past 5 visits to Cafe Society, and I always get distracted by other things in the store and never buy it. I got worried it would be gone one day, so I finally brought it home!

the dress is from a vintage girl at mass market... I should have gotten some more info from her, because I don't even know her name! I'm really loving this thing! So comfortable and it goes perfectly with these grey suede shoes I've been itching to wear lately....

lastly, this ridiculously ginormo tee...

.... the saying on the back is just ridiculous... "I do it automatically"
Whatever that means.

mass market day!!

I am home, and today was a longgg day!

This was from the very early start of it. Around 7:50 AM! Before the drizzle made my hair crazy and the weird lighting in the Pozen Center made my eyes go whacky!

the dress is from the 40's, and I picked it up at Cafe Society yesterday afternoon, and I guess she got it yesterday morning!
the shoes are from the bins
Alice made my necklace
the bag is from Bobby From Boston, and it was a gift from my boyfriend
and last but not least, the little fruit charm bracelet is from Rhiannon, which I wore for good luck!

I tried to snap some photos of our setup right before people came to the market, but it was tricky!!

This is Alice, fixing up some shoes, and her genius idea to put that piece of wood across the boxes. She's good. She's really good!

that is Alice and I, crazy on Katharine's cupcakes and so insanely tired!

It was a really, really nice day and I got to meet so many lovely flickr girls and ran into a bunch of other friends I haven't seen in ages! The only bad thing was that I sold this one bag with a label on the front that said "Super Sack" which I wishwishwish I didn't sell.... but, I'm trying not to think about it.

Now, it's time to get out of bed and go to VEGGIE PLANET!!!!!
