accordions

This is an old picture, taken by Jeff, my very best friend and twin brother (wink!)

I had just moved to Boston when these pictures were taken (two years ago) and now looking back at them - I think I look so young! Almost like a different girl... I guess this must be what city livin' does!

Anyway - I've been thinking about my accordion a lot lately and wishing I could remember more than a few notes of only one song. My teacher up and left for Buffalo, NY so I'm left with a bad memory and stumbling fingers! I've been practicing little by little so maybe I'll get better again. Not that I was ever good - but more than five notes would be nice!

The big black accordion in the picture is my fathers, from when he played in a garage band in the 60's. It's much too big for me so I purchased this little beauty from an antique store in NH a few Christmases ago.

When I look at it I want to run away with a gypsy circus and live only out of a big trunk. One that holds things like pretty glass perfume bottles and old crepe dresses.
(I think this is my favorite daydream)

marcine: thank you! and I couldn't think of a better match for a ukulele!!

emma: thank you! but, it's silly you say that - I think it's the one where I look like a baby!

anastasia, thaank you!! ps I hope you're feeling better!!

emily: thank you so much! I think the only reason they look half as nice as they do is because Jeff was using a fancy hasselblad camera!

missa: thank you so, so much! I was really lucky to stumble upon that accordion, it's like a little time machine for me! all I can picture is some delicate gypsy girl playing its keys!

I'm not so fond of accordions usually (they just bring to mind the countless bad accordionists making noise/begging in the metro - and they're usually rude about it too!) but yours is just so pretty, like something out of a silent movie or a Russian folk tale illustration! No wonder it's daydream inducing... And you would need faded glittery stocking to go with your crepe dresses, and feathers in your hair.

what a beautiful accordion! I have been longing for one myself, my mother sold her accordion when I was little and I wish wish she hadn't done that. I keep looking for them in antiqe stores but I never find one that looks like it would love to be with me. I also want a small accordion you see.

and, how romantic that your father played with that accordion in a garageband, van't he teach you how to play?

I wanna run away with a carneval too. especially since I've been looking at the tv-serie "Carneval" the past few saturdays. I want to love in the 1930s and follow them on their journey.

love - mojje

You're such a good little Polish girl! ;) My boyfriend is also Polish (he's even got one of those wonderfully unpronounceable last names that is nearly all consonants). We recently inherited boxes full of his grandfather’s old Polka albums. I’d love to learn the accordion and play along.

i think your favourite daydream and my favourite daydream were born identical twins and sold at birth to separate sideshows, only to rediscover each other after i read this post.
one day, i'm going to learn to play the accordion.

It is hardly fair, that one girl in all the world, should possess, both the most beautiful hair clip, and accordion known to mankind. Ah well, if it had to be someone I'm glad it's you.

it's very beautiful. I think my grandparents had or still have an accordion and I remember trying to play it when I was young. Or maybe that's just a figment of my imagination, but it's still a nice one.

That's a gorgeous accordion. It would definitely be a shame not to learn more than 5 notes of a song!

I had always lived in more or less small places since I was a little girl. Then a year ago I moved to a big city.

Last spring, I was looking at some old photographs of me, of last autumn, and then some newer ones, and I felt the change was enormous: I wasn't sure if I was imagining it, but I felt like I had grown up years during that one small year. The look in my eyes was so different, my whole facial expression seemed to have changed...

It may have been everything that happened during that year, all the internal processes, but it may well as well have been the city living... Probably, it was all that.

So, I am glad to hear someone else feels the same way - it makes me feel less like a madwoman for thinking I've changed so much in just one year. :)
