Weary Blues

Since workin' for myself I'm feeling slightly more and more crazy each day. It's a big deal to leave the house and go to the post office... today was quite a day though! the post office AND a trip to harvard square! I even splurged and bought new shoes! yes indeed - cool life!!! (sike!)

Enough of my workin' at home woes though!!So, this 'lil outfit of mine was inspired by two things. Paul Whiteman (you stole my heart sir) and Jessica's post about Footlight Parade. I'm terrible at watching movies. I usually fall asleep and I think I'd rather listen to records - but the little stills look adorable and those gals are sweet as pie! If only I could turn cartwheels like Paulie ... life would be perfect!

Ten little tappin' toes

(also, I have NOT forgotten about the second Rainbow Box installment, I'm just having a hard time choosing images... you'll find out more tomorrow though!)

There's no place like here

AHHH!!! I love this girl so much it makes me cry!!

So a few months agoTara from etsy came and spent the day with Alice and I and filmed a little video on our house and our spaces and all our old junk. I'm so happy with how it came out! I think it's completely wonderful and since I got home from work I've watched it too many times to count! It's funny seeing how nervous I was and how I totally mis-pronounce a few things - "a beauty shob?" haha ohhh goshhh

I'll cut this short before I get all cheesy and sentimental - but please do check out our video, and take a peak at some of Tara's other videos too! She's a gem!

oh, and you should go here to see all the lovely things the folks at etsy picked out to 'get our look'!

Long weekend!

I have today off from work! Ah yes, good 'ol Patriots Day or Evacuation Day or Bunker Hill Day - Boston has so many silly holidays I never know what's what... I've spent my days tucked inside cleaning and also out exploring at our first outdoor flea market of the year! I took home that sweet 'lil bunny and now I'm going crazy with pink and frilliness! The inspiration comes from the starlets of old Hollywood and what I imagine their movie trailers to look like. (I think these daydreams come from this photo and this one too!) I'm really happy with this little nook now. I have some of my favorite items tucked over here and it's nice to wake up to that in the morning! Things will be complete once I pick up some more plants for my window sills...

I even threw on an outfit inspired by the new corner this morning! The pink of the pillow and the green which will eventually by my new plants (that's happening very soon actually, Alice and I are about to leave to go shopping!) I did end up changing though - I just don't feel like wearing heels and lugging plants around right now - but I like this color combination a bunch and I can't wait to wear it when I visit San Francisco in a few weeks!

Oh my!

This is more or less how I spent my snowy Sunday. Important things like grocery shopping, buying a bunch of white ranunculus, cooking with kale, dusting out the cobwebs, stitching up my old tattered quilts, and of course ... re-arranging. It seems like every weekend I end up fussing with my bedroom, I think I'm finally getting there though - I've realized the more stuff I cram in - the cozier I feel. This weekend was sort of a big deal though since I'm clearing out all my things from my extra room/closet and moving it all into my teeny tiny bedroom. I feel like I'm living in some sort of fun world right now. There's just floor to ceiling stuff and a little three foot path that goes through my room (this extends for approximately 14 feet).

There are little fragile dresses hanging all around and I've got all sorts of pretty books stacked up and organized by color. My wooden thread collection is complete and spreads itself out perfectly across my windows. I've yet to add my wall hangings - but, I'm trying to save some things for me and Alice's shared studio space (by studio space I mean the spare room in our house that's only down the hall about 12 feet) I'm excited to see how the room will work itself out. We hope to make a few nice spots to take pictures by and hopefully we'll have the ultimate shipping table for our Forest Bound and Thirteen Eighty-Five endeavors. I'm sure one of us will share photos when the room is complete - but for now - here are the newest photos of my room and the chaos that it is:

It's funny - I don't know if you can tell from those pictures that it's all one tiny room! The claustrophobic ... *ahem - I mean cozy feeling doesn't really come across as well as it does in real life.

Today was another snowy day and Alice was sweet enough to help me with some etsy photos - it was nice to have a clean room as the backdrop! Much cozier to be inside then outside in the white fluff!!

Now I'm off to bed - I've been sick for the past two weeks and I feel a relapse coming on - the dreaded 'hard to swallow soar throat' business!! I hope I wake up feeling better in the morning!!!

a work in progress

A few Saturdays ago I woke up at 6:30 in the morning and decided I hated the new room and needed to change it around. It's a very similar setup to my old room, but I just can't sleep well without being near a window. I've been slowly collecting pieces of lace for my windows and the fabric canopy above my bed, it's not finished yet, but it's coming along! I also need to find some antique inspired light bulbs for the ceiling fixture

Today it's been so hot and sticky I've been hiding in here with the air conditioner on and listening to old Duke Ellington songs. (This one is my favorite!)

little things

I was feeling really good about the new room, and then I fell asleep and woke up feeling like I was in some other girl's house. I think this is because all of the walls are bare (except for the little area above the suitcases) and it just feels strange. The old bedroom was the product of two years of compiling and collecting and stuffing, so this minimalism thing is a foreign concept to me.

new room

This weekend I've been busy with painting, cleaning, and re-decorating!
I switched bedrooms, (Ill be using my old bedroom as a glorified closet/workspace!) So I've been hard at work to create the same cozy atmosphere of the old room, minus the clutter. The old bedroom was wonderful, but it would get messy even if I sneezed! I've been listening to Vashti Bunyan all afternoon and I think I'm going to take a blueberry break soon because this room is definitely coming along, but nowhere near finishd. I haave some things on hold until I can find time to visit a few flea markets. I need to find some big lacey pieces for the window treatments and the little tent/canopy thing I want to build over the bed. (Kind of like this)

accordions

This is an old picture, taken by Jeff, my very best friend and twin brother (wink!)

I had just moved to Boston when these pictures were taken (two years ago) and now looking back at them - I think I look so young! Almost like a different girl... I guess this must be what city livin' does!

Anyway - I've been thinking about my accordion a lot lately and wishing I could remember more than a few notes of only one song. My teacher up and left for Buffalo, NY so I'm left with a bad memory and stumbling fingers! I've been practicing little by little so maybe I'll get better again. Not that I was ever good - but more than five notes would be nice!

The big black accordion in the picture is my fathers, from when he played in a garage band in the 60's. It's much too big for me so I purchased this little beauty from an antique store in NH a few Christmases ago.

When I look at it I want to run away with a gypsy circus and live only out of a big trunk. One that holds things like pretty glass perfume bottles and old crepe dresses.
(I think this is my favorite daydream)

I bought this dress a few months ago at CafĂ© Society. I think it was luck that day because I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it hanging there! 1920’s butter yellow lace perfection = DREAM DRESS! And it did not wipe out my checking account either!
For the past few years I’ve made it a tradition to buy a special dress for my birthday. This one is definitely, definitely 2008’s dress!

And more bits and pieces of my room – it’s still a mess, I decided to get soul food last Friday instead of cleaning, but this weekend is the weekend! I’ll probably try and list some treasures from my room on etsy this weekend too. I’m trying so hard to cutback on clutter!

The silly bowling pin was my purchase from the Lamp Shop last weekend. (This is its temporary home though) And the bag I bought from Bobby’s a few weekends ago, I haven’t worn it yet, but I love looking at it!

wake up!

Sorry for the sleepy blog lately - I blame it on technology. My powerbook that I've spent the last four years with has finally bite the dust.... It was a long time coming, so I'm not completely devastated - but, that means that I have to start working extra hard to get the etsy shop up and going. This weekend was really promising, we made some great purchases, really great ones! And my new digital camera came this weekend, so taking photos will be so much easier. I don't have a tripod, so it's just finding the time with friends to take photos... The computer thing is a really great motivation though!

Thirteen Eighty-Five

(everything you see here will be on etsy in the upcoming days!)

. . . . . . . . . . .

It's much too late for me right now - but I want to share some photos from our flea market adventure this weekend...

This is the little AM radio of my dreams. It's a vintage tube amp and it takes a minute or so to warm up before it starts playing. Boston has an amazing station that plays really charming old songs, 740 - The Memory Station, and I'm currently listening to one of my favorite polka tune. I'm so happy we found this today because it's been in my daydreams for far too long! I don't want to leave this room....

I found this elephant alongside a sad panda bear - the elephant I gave to Alice because she loves them and once a psychic told her she had a past life experience with them! As for the panda, I'm practicing some control and I'll eventually put him up for sale.
