Brooklyn

. . .

We're moving to NY this summer. Which is crazy to think about. We'll be leaving SF at the end of May, and then bunkering down in MA until we find our dream apartment in Brooklyn. (which basically means anything other then an over-priced crack den. Maybe tin ceilings, good natural light, and a claw foot tub if the apartment universe realllllly loves us)

I've been half excited / half terrified about everything since I found out it was happening for real - but these photos of Siri in Brooklyn are making me a little more excited. There's something very New York about them - which I know is a funny thing to say, because I can't exactly explain what I mean ... but. They're good. Really good. And I hope our apartment will be half as pretty as this one.

That is SUCH an NY staircase!!! You'll almost definitely be getting one of those - and hopefully all those other pretty things, too.

But this time zone ain't gonna be the same withoutcha.

OH WOW! Good luck with the move -- kind of selfishly happy you're moving to a place that I can visit sort of easily!

The lighting in this is very beautiful and the stairs are very NY indeed. West coast to the East coast! Very exciting :)

Whaaaat that's the best news I've heard all week!!

Eva's apartment (where these were taken) is in South Williamsburg in a big old building that looks like nothing much on the outside, but inside it has so many beautiful details like all those old tiles and iron railings on the stairs. The apartment I live in, also in Williamsburg, is basically a vinyl-sided box with windows and a big hole in the wall where the air conditioner is supposed to go haha. Finding a sweet apartment is tough but definitely possible, you just need equal parts luck and determination (start practicing your checkbook-quickdraw now!)

Anyways, I'm so excited you're moving here!!I have a feeling this is gonna be a really fantastic summer :n )

I've been a follower of your blog for a while but never commented - anyway, I'm actually a licensed real estate salesperson and I work in the Lower East Side of Manhattan with of course a realty service. I have access to thousands of exclusive apartments that most of the other agents do not. If you're really looking to move and score that dream apartment, I can help you find it. My specialty is in downtown Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn - I, myself, actually live in Brooklyn. Anyway, just thought I'd offer my services. (I work with both no fee and fee apartments, we can find something to fit your budget) I'm actually about to start a blog in about a week focusing on "hidden gems". I only deal in beautiful apartments.
You can check my blogs for 'taste'.
Either way, good luck!

I should mention also that I am meticulous and stubborn - two of the best qualities to look for when enlisting the help of a pro.

And I never! ever! solicit my services. I just think you're neat and am extending my help.

Ooh, yay for Brooklyn. I've been a resident for 7 years and am still in search of that apartment with the tin ceilings and claw foot tub. A giant old tub is what counts in life, really. For whatever reason landlords in "affordable" places in BK like to fill them with all of the cheapest stuff you can buy at Home Depot. I think some neighborhoods are better than others for the old awesome prewar details but aren't always the safest areas for girls to live in, sigh! Anyhow I'm sure you'll fill your place with so much charm and look forward to seeing on the blog!

The right apartment with present itself. You will love it here!
Cheers!!

don't dream too hard, girl. brooklyn is tough. you might find a great apartment in a terrible or really inconvenient spot. living in BK is all about the train! most people say that location, in reference to the train, is preferable to the glamour of the interior.

i am obviously super excited about this news! i think you'll find that new york suits you quite nicely!

siri is right, apartment hunting can be stressful and it almost always feels like its never going to work out - until it does at the very last possible moment.

i have no doubt that you guys will find something perfect and fantastic! feel free to bend my ear about neighborhoods and whatnot when the time comes. i'm more than happy to help!

That first picture is totally dreamy. I hadn't seen these photos yet, so thanks for sharing. I've actually never been to NYC. I know a couple people that live there but have never had the chance to visit them. Let me know when the going away party is. We'll miss you so much!
XOXO

i agree with Siri, this is going to be the best summer ever. im picturing fun days in the sun with you, Siri and Hannah. and i have a car so i can take us all on day trip get aways to the beach or new england :) although im kind of sad to see you leave san fran, it looks like such a great place with some really lovely ladies, i'll be selfish and keep on being happy your heading out this way. maybe while your still in MA i can come up for a visit? good luck with the apartment hunt.. sometimes my bf and i look at craigslist just for fun and recently i have been seeing some reasonably priced places that look really nice.. so i hope the good natural light/ good kitchen space/ good walk to the subway gods smile upon you :)

Aw, I know the thought of moving to BK can be a teeny bit crazy, but once you're here. you'll really love it.
Perfect timing too as it's just getting warmer so you'll be able to venture out and discover a lot of cool places.

Good luck with the move.

Eeeee! That's so exciting!

Good luck on the apartment front, though. I've been looking, and it's not pretty right now. Fingers crossed that more non-crack dens pop up after May!
