1385 + estate sales

Estate sales ... man, what a totally scary thing to me. Things are just a total circus when you have a house full of old junk and free reign to rummage through as you please. I bet sample sales are equally terrifying. I've only ever been to two estate sales in my life, and yesterday was #2. But, I think I'm going to try and start making a thing of it. I think as long as you go in with low expectations then you can only be pleasantly surprised, right?

Here's some of the stuff I got yesterday from a house in Berkeley ... I haven't soaked anything yet, but as long as the sun comes out then it should find its way into the shop mid-week.

I've never been to an estate sale, but they sound amazing! I really need to find one and see what it's like!
And that last dress is gorgeous!

I wish they had more estate sales here as I have never been to one! The peices you find for your shop are forever enchanting!
I've also been inspired by you to begin to not turn down slightly stained garments that I love. We don't have oxyclean here so i'm going to try and use the equivlent on a $1 dress I found that broke my heart when I realised how grubby it was!

I wish I had your luck when it comes to estate sales! I've been to quite a few but have yet to find anything as lovely as these pieces. Especially that last dress! *sigh*

That second sweater is lovely, so pretty but without being overly girly. I haven't been to an estate sale since I was little, don't know if they even have them in London - I guess they must, I should investigate!

I went to my second estate sale ever recently too! They are overwhelming; I don't think I could ever make them a regular thing, but sometimes it's well worth it. I love all these little pieces you've found--you have such a good eye for treasures!

every now and then i'll go to an estate sale where the house has been left exactly as it was before (i assume) the owner passed away and i'm nearly overcome with tears. as much as i love rummaging through drawers for treasures, it can be a seriously depressing affair if you think about it too much. i'm glad you found some good stuff at this one!

great items that you picked out!
I find estate sales to be... weird? Like, you know that the person who owned the house either died, or went into a hospital, or nursing home. And you're just buying their stuff to cover funeral costs, hospital bills or hospice care. It's all very sad. Like that person(s) spent their whole life to get all of their "nice" things, and then it's turn around and sold for a sliced fraction of it's original worth.

sad.

gorgeous! Especially the last one - I was so excited to come and see what you had up for fall, and you didn't disappoint :). I was in Berkeley last year for halloween - I just love it. The coffee shops, the hills, the ocean. Such a great part of Nor Cal, makes me miss home to think of it. All of us down here in the smog :/

I know how you feel about estate sales...the scariest is when you go in right when it opens. There's always a mob outside waiting to trample anything and anyone who stands in their way of getting inside. Looked like you found some very pretty things though..can't wait to see what else you dig up at future sales! :)
