Well, I think it's time to get over my weird thing, give the book shelf a makeover and get those magazines a good home on the bottom shelf. I'm hoping to do a little weekly series (maybe bi-weekly though?) of scans from the stack.
To start it off we have an article from 1984's May issue.

. . .
26 years later (this spread is older then me!) and these bags look like something that would still be featured today. I guess that's why I like World of Interiors so much. A steadily beautiful and classic aesthetic that transcends time and trends... Well, except that backdrop. Kind of wish they would have stuck with a more neutral color - but, whatever.. it was the 80s.

Geoff and I had this exact discussion about magazines yesterday. We were talking about how Dwell is okay to flip through at the bookstore, but we wouldn't care to own it. Meanwhile, I consider Russh & Lula "must buys," yet I flip through them a few times, then file them away... I think the difference is that I enjoy pulling those ones out from time to time and flipping through, finding different things. World of Interiors is excellent for that! Practically gives me Stendhal syndrome!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had about a thousand old bags lying around. For real.
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic cases! I usually prefer 60s and 70s styles but that spread makes me wish I was a traveler in those times instead, being on steam trains and in 1930's motor cars, my flapper dresses and pearls packed neatly and my hair cut into a boyish bob style... :)

hehe I know what you mean about the backgrounds. But the cases are beautiful, I love them!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images, just discovered your lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't mind to fly away with one of those suitcases while reading one of those magazines... :)
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic, the backdrop somewhat gives it an almost retro//futuristic feel - if that even makes sense!
